Maintenance of Diamonds

Taking Care of Your Diamond

You must take more care of your diamonds, and just occasional cleaning is not enough. Diamonds are forever, and they can be damaged if you are careless. You can maintain your diamond very well by learning the best method to take care of it.

First, you must take the diamond at least once a year to your diamond jeweler. He or she must be made to check the prongs and mountings, which hold the diamond in place. You must allow him or her to do all the essential repairs. This will prevent the diamond from getting lost or from falling out of its setting.

Diamonds that are loose or those which are not worn regularly must be stored in a jewelry box or in a fabric lined jewel case, where it must be kept separate from other jewelry. Each piece of jewelry must have its own space. This will prevent scratching and keep it from scratching other jewelry pieces as well.

It is advisable to remove all diamond jewelry while doing physical work. This is because they can be chipped or scratched easily. You must also prevent diamonds from coming into contact with household cleansers or bleaching agents, as this can change or damage the color of the mountings and settings and irreversibly change the color of the diamond!
