Are Diamonds Rarely Found?
You might find it difficult to believe that diamonds are rare when you enter a jewelry store and see the wide variety of diamonds in different settings displayed for sale. It is difficult for many people to understand how those diamonds found their place in a jewelerÂ’s case! A lot of work is involved before a diamond can readily be sold to the public!
In every one million diamonds that are mined, only one diamond may be found that can be called a quality one carat diamond. About five million diamonds have to be mined in order to find a two caret diamond. In order to find one small diamond, more than two hundred tons of ore have to be mined. Another fact to bear in mind is that more than 80% of the diamonds that are mined are suitable for industrial use, namely diamond drill bits.
So, you may ask to see the one carat diamonds the next time you visit your local jewelry store. Then you will be able to look at these diamonds with greater appreciation, as you will understand that this stone is really one in a million!
